Resources for Immigrants >>

Civic participation is one of the key determinants of social inclusion of newcomers. The Peel Civic Participation project, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, seeks to facilitate full and equitable participation of newcomers, immigrants and other diverse populations in the civic life of Peel. Increased civic participation and engagement of newcomers/immigrants will enhance awareness, understanding and social cohesion amongst and between diverse communities in Peel

On June 11, 2011, over 130 immigrants participated in a one-day conference at the Peel District School Board (PDSB) to explore ways to increase civic participation in our community. The day was full with activities including panel discussion, keynote address, and workshop sessions on civic participation and opportunities in municipalities, hospitals, political and electoral institutions, schools and school boards, Peel regional police, non-profit organizations, community development agencies and foundations.
